Information for parents 13th March 2020

We hope everybody is so far fine and enjoy our online classes.

Here is some overview for our next unit "How we Express Ourselves"-stories, which is planned for April-June.

What is the Central Idea?
Stories inform and provoke us, and give us pleasure.

What is the Transdisciplinary Theme?
Inquiry into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values; the ways in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity; our appreciation of the aesthetic.

What are the lines of inquiry?
What is a story? What do stories convey? What are different kinds of stories? How do stories make us feel?

What will the main activities be?
We are starting the unit by exploring the various ways stories can be shared. For example, stories can be told with books, acting, pictures, through songs, etc. We will  move into defining characteristics of stories and how we create them.

What is the Learner Profile focus?
Open-minded - “Students understand and embrace other cultures. They recognize and celebrate their own backgrounds and learn tolerance for others.” Children come to understand one another’s culture through stories from different countries. They are receptive to both the similarities and differences of worldwide stories.
Principled - “Students are honest, fair, just and full of integrity. They strive to solve their own problems and to take responsibility for their own actions.” Stories generally deal with Good v. Bad. Children will read stories and find what is “good,” and how they can use that knowledge to improve their own behaviors.

Action you may see taken at home:

Students might re-tell, or act out stories that they have heard at school. Students might explore books and stories at home, or be curious about what stories you read as a child. They might demonstrate an understanding of and discuss the characteristics of stories, such as characters, settings, and the concept of sequencing in English or their native language.
