These are the "this is me" dolls which Unicorn class made. Each one looks different and nice.

They also made "mask holders" this week. Each student has his/her own mask holder to use when they take off their masks.

This week, the Brilliant Butterfly children kept exploring the art corner and the different materials there. They're really enjoying working on their own original creations.

We also brought out the finger paints this week. That was so much fun!

Outside, the class unanimously decided to build a river in the sandbox. They have been working hard on their river all week. The cooperation among this group of students is amazing!

Here's some information about our current unit in Kindergarten (How We Express Ourselves):

Central idea: we use the arts to express our ideas and feelings

Lines of inquiry: 1) experimenting with various media; and 2) observing changes to art materials

Concepts: form, change

Approaches to learning: self-management, thinking

Learner profile: open-minded, risk-takers

Learning goals/success criteria: our students become bold, self-motivated young artists

Action: (Unicorns/Blue Team) Students try many artistic expressions and become risk-takers. For example, drawing with finger paints. Not afraid to get their hands dirty. Try to mix colors. Try to sing and play musical instruments with their friends. Try to express and act out a story using puppets.

(Butterflies/Yellow Team) Become more confident and skilled at using art materials such as scissors, glue, tape, paint, etc. Take initiative to start their own individual and collaborative creative projects. Sharpen their self-management skills such as cleaning up art materials when finished.

How to support your child at home: (Unicorns/Blue Team) Please read some simple storybooks for your child so he/she can become familiar enough with them to retell them to his/her friends through dramatic play.

(Butterflies/Yellow Team) Try out some new art projects with your child at home which he or she is interested in. Provide your child with time to practice using scissors, give him/her some clay, paints, beads for stringing, etc.
