Kindergarten Blog, Feb. 12: All About Love and Making Choices

This week, the Kindergarten children learned that their choices matter because they are a big part of who they are.

The blue team talked about the similarities and differences with the food they like to eat and what they like to do. The children placed pictures and signs of activities that they like doing on the body picture that they made last week. They also looked at their friends’ body pictures and compared them with the activities that they like to do.

Money counting was popular with some boys.

Making the Valentine's card for parents was also very popular. The boys took lots of effort to make them.

This week in the yellow team, we used  different areas in our classroom to highlight how we enjoy doing different things. Some like crafting, reading, or playing with puzzles and manipulatives. Others like drawing or building structures using blocks and Legos. We all had a choice and it was fun!

We also focused on our yearlong unit on Sharing the Planet. Since it’s winter, we talked about the different things we see during this season, as well as the clothes that we wear for all seasons.

Mia suggested that we go for a walk and observe what winter does to the trees outside. On our walk, we collected some twigs and created a winter scene!

This week, we also celebrate Valentine’s Day. The children wanted to make gifts and cards for their parents and teachers. We are happy to spread love and joy to the people who are important to us, but in this unit we have learned that we also have to love ourselves because we are special!

Happy Hearts Day to you, and Happy Chinese New Year, too!

Your Kindergarten teachers,

Pam and Azusa
