Kindergarten Blog, May 14: Transportation Experiments and Observations!

After the Golden week holiday, the Blue Team got busy again. They tried an experiment to see if their self-made boats are floating, as well as if the cars they drew are moving with the magnet underneath.

Children also created the summer tree together. You can see lots of cute handprints.

The Yellow Team also had a busy week! We continued our inquiry on the different forms of transportation and how they work. The children started building the boats that they’ve designed using different materials. Our goal was to build a boat that can float, carry a small load, and travel a short distance. They tested their creations to see if they work, and they’ve tweaked their designs based on their observations!

The children also used their observation skills in tallying the kinds of vehicles that pass in front of DSKI. They discovered that the forms of transportation that can be seen the most in our area are the cars and bicycles!

This week, we were once again invited to visit the tulip field — this time to help pick out the tulip bulbs from the soil. The children got their hands dirty but they had so much fun under the sun!

There was also a schoolwide earthquake, tsunami, and fire drill practice. The children learned how to duck, cover, and hold, as well as the proper way to move to a safe zone. The children learned the importance of knowing what to do in case of an emergency, as well as how to be calm.

This Friday, the children said farewell to Sienna as she will once again return to her home country. It was bittersweet for everyone -- we will all miss her but we're happy for her and her family, too!

We hope that you’ve all had a wonderful Golden Week holiday. Welcome back to school, everyone!

Your Kindergarten teachers,

Pam and Azusa
